Lions at Safari Adventures
Lions are the second largest members of the cat family. They are the only cats that live in big family groups. Their primary habitat is green plains, savanna and forests.
Male lions stay with a pride only as long as they are strong enough to defend their group from other males. A lion's roar can be heard up to 5 miles away.
The life span of a lion in the wild is about 12-18 years. In captivity it is more like 20-30 years.
MANE ATTRACTION
Only male lions have manes - these protect the lions neck during hunting and fighting. They also servie as a display of health, hormonal strength, and dominance. Ranging from blonde to black, longer and darker manes indicate higher testosterone levels and better genetic fitness, making them more attractive to lionesses and intimidating to rivals.

Myths and Mysteries of the White Lion
The white lion is a genetic variation of the tawny lion, so it is born without a gene marker that creates the dark colour. They are not albino. You can tell that the white lions are not albino as they do not have pink paw pads nor red eyes. Our white lions have the clearest blue-green eyes which will melt your heart.
The legends go that the white lion is a Messenger from the Gods, bringing peace and prosperity to the lands. The white lion is very rare, as the gene is carried by certain tawny coloured lions in the region, and white cubs occurred in numerous prides in the region.
There are roughly 300 white lions in the world and Safari Adventures is lucky enough to have 10 of these rare animals.
JUST A LITTLE DIFFERENT
White lions are not albino but rather a genetic variation of the brown lion, so it's born without a gene marker that produces melanin.
DID YOU KNOW?
